How nice it is to be home with my family. We enjoyed going to church Sunday for the first time since the accident. Pastor Darryl gave Chase a "SuperChase" trophy for overcoming "super" challenges through his journey. Chase is sooo proud of that trophy. We are transfering to anniston for therapy 3x a week. So much closer to home. Chase will go back to school on august 10th and he is excited about that. He is ready to see all his friends. Chase is doing really good!

Thank you all for the prayers!

We love you-

Today is the big day! We are going home "for good"! We have grown to love so many wonderful people and families at Scottish Rite and at the Ronald McDonald home. We will miss them dearly. They will always have a special place in our heart.

Wow- have I learned so much from this journey. I've learned what a strong and determined little boy I have. I've learned how life can change in a blink of an eye. My family has been though so many emotions and trials but we come through it all together. We never gave up hope, kept the faith, and this has changed me for the better. We pulled strength from those people who supported us through this journey. This journey has been tough but amazing at the same time. No doubt - WITH GOD, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.

THANK YOU to those who stood by us every step of the way. Everyone that prayed and helped us through this. I could not imagine going through this alone. It would have been horrible. I have the best friends in the world and a WONDERFUL FAMILY. OUR CHURCH, community, school, and my job, Bowdon Homecare, are absolutely the best people in the world. I am so very blessed.

We love you all!

Love you all!

We are counting down the days! Next Friday, July 24th, will be Chase's last day at Day Rehab at Scottish Rite. We will be coming home permanently!! It's very excited to be going back to a normal life again and be home together as a family.

Chase is doing very well in rehab. He's been a trooper! Each week he's getting stronger in his strength and coordination which are great signs. It takes the spine one year to heal so we want him to continue to improve everyday so he can hopefully make a complete recovery. The doctors say he can never play contact sports but we are not given up on baseball. Chase really wants to play baseball again. His therapist are working on "How" Chase is walking. He has some weakness in his ankles and knees that are causing some issues but he will continue therapy closer to home 3x/ per week (in Anniston) to work on strenthing these areas and also his upper body. He will have to wear braces on his legs hopefully temporarily and will continue to wear a brace on his neck for another month. He had x-rays on his spine today. His neurosurgeon said he his healing very well and is also very pleased with the progress of his recovery. His word was "unbelievable" and my words were "Praise God"!

Please continue to pray for Chase. We want to again Thank you all for the continue prayers and support. We love you all!

Love,
Dwayne, Lisa, Dylan, & Chase

We all had a great 4th of July weekend. Chase was excited to go to his brothers ballgame. He had fun swimming and fishing with his cousins and friends. He also had a good time spending the day with his best buddy, Andy Merrell.

We are back at rehab after a fun weekend at home. Chase is doing very good with his mobility. Each day he gains strength and keeps getting stronger. We pray that God will continue to heal his body - we have been blessed with all that Chase has accomplished in his rehabilitation.

We love you and ask that you will continue to pray for Chase.

Love,
Dwayne, Lisa, Dylan and Chase.

Chase is doing good in his rehabilitation. Still working on his fine motor skills and strength in his arms, hands, and legs. I am so proud at how well he is doing and how far he has come. He is doing great since he got the halo off and thinks he can do anything now. (back to my old Chase) He is so ready to swim and play baseball but we still have restrictions from his doctor. Maybe on his follow up on July 17th, he will give us the ok for all these activities he is ready to do.

Thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. Keep praying for a full recovery.

We love you all,
Dwayne, Lisa, Dylan, and Chase

Chase is doing very well balancing without the halo on. His neck muscles are very weak and sore but in time will strengthen and heal. Chase is working hard everyday in rehab on his fine motor skills. (writing, throwing a ball, putting on socks ect...) He seems to get stronger everyday with those skills. We are hoping to come home for good July 24th. This will be based on how well he is doing at that time. We are so blessed to be able to stay at the Ronald McDonald house. Someone donated Braves tickets to Chase and he was able to go to his first Braves Game. Chase is a huge Chipper Jones fan. We all had a great time! They are so many nice people in the community that help you with meals and activities for the children here. Everyone just loves Chase! He keeps everyone entertained.

Thank you for thinking and praying for us! We keep you all in our prayers as well.

Love,
Lisa

PRAISE GOD! THE HALO IS OFF! After a long day at the hospital on Friday doing CT scans on Chase's head and pancreas, we got very good results on his healing and good news - Chase was able to get his halo off. (On Monday) His break at the C-2 has healed very well. His Dr. was very impressed at how well Chase is doing in such a short period of time with his walking and mobility in his arms. He said everything is looking good, it will just take time and therapy for the fine motor skills. His pancreas is COMPLETELY HEALED and he is now able to eat whatever he wants. (GOD IS SO GOOD)He has to wear a neck brace for 4-6 wks but able to take it off during a bath. Chase was excited about getting is first real bath in a bathtub last night. After he got to see himself without the halo, he said " The old Chase is back!"
It was so nice getting a real hug without bars and screws in the way.
We are getting there! Please keep praying for a FULL RECOVERY. We thank God everyday for the mercy he has done on Chase. Everyday I am touched by this journey.

We love you all. Thank you all for the support! God Bless You!

It's Friday!! (First thing Chase said this morning when he woke up) He's excited about going home for the weekend and all of us at home together with Dylan and Daddy. Therapy is going well. Chase is getting much stronger with his balance and coordination when walking. Each day he seems to be able to walk longer distance w/o getting fatigue. His left arm and hand strength is better but still working on coordination. His right arm coordination has improved and he is doing better with his handwriting and finger coordination. He can't wait until the halo comes off - we are counting down the days! He is so ready to go swimming and start water therapy. It's really amazing to think about how far Chase has come since the accident. On March 21, we were told Chase was paralyzed from shoulders down and may never walk or have mobility in his arms again and today he is walking and using his arms. I truly can say... With God all things are possible. He is so Good!

Keep us in your prayers. Chase is improving everyday. Our church family, community, school, our family and friends have been so good to us. Everyone has reached out to help us and we so appreciate everything you have done. God Bless You ALL! We love you so much.

Chase and I are getting comfortable at the Ronald McDonald House. Everyone is so wonderful here. So many nice people that come in to volunteer their time to help with meals and play games with the kids. It's really nice! (The RMc house is a block from the rehab center -across from Scottish Rite). Chase looks forward to going home on the weekends - that gets him through each day being away from home! Chase is walking majority of the time. He seldom uses his wheelchair now, he only uses it if he is tired from walking too much. His arm movements are getting stronger everyday. His therapist are working on his coordination (hands and fingers), handwriting, and focusing/attention. He will be in this rehab center for 45 days. He is eating well - still on a low fat diet. He has come so far in his rehabilitation. We are so proud of his strength and determination. We give praises to GOD for all that he has done to heal Chase's body!

We love you all and thank you so much for the continued prayers and support for Chase and our family. Everyone has been so good to us!

Chase's scheduled date to remove the halo is June 19th.

God Bless you all!
Love,
Lisa

Chase had an awesome "Welcome Home" from family and friends. He had "Welcome Home" signs at Bowdon Homecare, Stateline, and our house. He got police escort from the stateline to Ranburne School where all the elementary students were outside cheering for Chase and welcoming him home.(Thank you Hirmanda- you are wonderful) It was really amazing! Chase got out and walked for everybody. Everyone was excited to see that. Thank you all for making Chase coming home so special.

It was sooo wonderful to be home this weekend. We had so much fun! Chase and Dylan played together - they have missed each other so much. It was so nice to be home with my family. Chase was so EXCITED!

Today was Chase's first day at day rehab. He was very tired after non-stop therapy for 6 hrs. It's very intense. The good thing is that we will come home every weekend. That's something for him to look forward to.

Thank you all for the support. Please continue to pray for Chase and our family. We love you all and are blessed to have you in our lives.

Love,
Lisa

Chase is coming home Friday. We are so excited! We are Praising God for all that he has done to heal Chase so he can finally come home. All his nurses, therapist, and physicians are sad to see him go. We've been here so long (60 days), we've all become like family. We are going to miss everyone but there is "No Place Like Home." We miss our family!

Chase will have to come back next week to begin day therapy. We will stay at the Ronald McDonald house during the week and come home every weekend. We will do this for a month. After day therapy, we are back home permanently. We pray that God will completely heal Chase's body and he will not need anymore therapy after this. God is guiding our every step through this, I have faith that God will make this happen.

We are so grateful for the continued support and prayers. We are so blessed to have you all in our lives.

We love you,
Lisa and Chase

Chase's lipase levels have been ranging from 3,000-6,000 (lipase normal range is 15-208) which has been preventing him from being able to eat or drink. Every time they would allow him to drink, his levels would go up so high his doctors were afraid it would cause even more problems to his pancreas. His physicians said it could take weeks or months for his amylase and lipase levels to drop to normal range. Well, on Saturday his blood work showed all levels were normal. The doctor felt there must have been a mistake so he wanted a repeat labs on Sunday. Well, Chase's levels on Sunday were even lower. Chase's doctor told us he does not have a medical explanation of how this happened but that HE IS A MIRACLE - IT HAS BEEN THE POWER OF PRAYER. How GREAT IS OUR GOD!! It is so powerful to witness what GOD can do.

Chase was able to eat his first meal in two months this morning. He ate two bowls of cereal, eggs and ham. He enjoyed every bite!
For the past several days Chase has been walking around EVERYWHERE. He has not used his wheelchair at all. Last week they did an x-ray on Chase's spine. His doctor said his spine looks good and will remove the halo in 2 - 3 weeks. (A month earlier than the original date) We will know tomorrow if Chase will come home for sure this weekend.

Thank you all for the prayers!

Lisa

Chase had a good day in his therapy classes working on walking, balancing, coordination, and using his left arm more. He had a full day of physical, occupational, speech therapy and school. Every night we play UNO, connect four, and baseball before we go to bed. After a full day of therapy and fun - he is worn out and sleeps so good at night.

Unfortunately, Chase once again can't drink any fluids by mouth. His amylase and lipase levels went up so high they had to stop anything going to his stomach. We'll just keep praying for Chase's pancreas to heal and the cyst to dissolve. He is upset about this but he is being a trooper! The pancreas just takes along time to heal.

We ask that you will continue to pray for Chase's rehabilitation and for his pancreas. Thank you so much for your support.

Love,
Lisa

Mother's Day was such a special day for me. Chase walking on his own was the most precious gift I could ever receive. Spending the day with Dwayne and Dylan really made the day even more special. I love Dwayne! I love being a MOM to the two most special boys in the world. They are my life! I feel so very blessed and I thank God everyday for my family. I came so close to loosing my son- I will never take anything in life for granted again.

Chase is doing REALLY good. He is walking on his own and balancing with the halo. He still gets off balance some because of the halo and still building up his muscles in his legs so we have to walk with him. He is not quite ready just to walk around alone. (even though he tries to) Today he was able to drink apple juice and eat a grape Popsicle with no stomach problems. (Praise Jesus!) We pray he will be able to continue the liquids with no problems. His right arm and hands are getting stronger. In therapy he is working on coordination with his fingers and getting his left hand, arms, and fingers stronger. He works so hard everyday in therapy!! He is completely off ALL medication. I am so proud of him. Such a SUPERCHASE!

Keep praying for his pancreas and a complete recovery. God is healing him everyday and we are so thankful.

Lisa

Chase had an incredible day today. He WALKED on his own (about 30+ steps - i was so excited I lost count) with NO SUPPORT. Nobody holding his gate belt - all him. We are rejoicing about Chase's healing and his life. He is a miracle!!! He is using his right arm, hands, and fingers so good. Still working on lifting his left arm above his shoulder against gravity. His pancreas amylase and lipase levels are continuing to decrease. Thank you for the prayers! Please continue to pray for him.

The outpouring of love and support has inspired me so much. Thank you all again for the love you have shown to Chase and our family.

Lisa

Chase is walking without his walker. We just hold his gate belt for support and balance. He can stand on his own without assistance. It's just amazing!! Today he walked to each patients room and visited with them. (What happen to my "SHY" Chase?) Believe me - he is not shy anymore. I love it!!

The pancreas levels keep decreasing everyday. Keep praying that Chase's pancreas will heal before his discharge date of 5/22. It will be so hard for him not to be able to eat when we go home.

We are so grateful for all the support and prayers from everyone. We are so blessed to have you all in our lives.

Chase is counting the days until he gets to come home! He cant wait!! GOD is sooo GOOD!!

Chase will be discharged from rehab at Scottish Rite on May 22nd. We'll be home Memorial Day Weekend (WE ARE SO EXCITED!) Chase will begin day rehab on May 26. Day rehab will be Monday - Friday, we'll come home on the weekends. (Chase is thrilled about that). Day rehab will continue intense physical and occupational therapy on him each day. Their goal is to continue to work with him to walk on his own, strengthen his arms, and teach him how to be independent in his current condition. SuperChase is doing so good! Keep him in your prayers!
When Chase's doctors and nurses comes in to see him they are just amazed at how well he improves each day. His new movement he can do now is lift his right arm against gravity. Monica (his Physical Therapist) is walking him using a regular rolling walker (2 wheels) and walking up and down stairs. He is working hard to balance w/ halo and getting all muscles strong in his arms and legs. When he regains his strength and balance he will be walking on his own.

Good News about his pancreas levels today, they went DOWN!! If this continues they will be able to start stomach feeding in a few weeks. (Keep praying!) Chase is so ready to eat his favorite! (Papa's Pizza)

He is having a good day! He is playing the Wii w/ his friends in rehab.

Love,
Lisa

Chase had family, all his cousins, and his friend TYE visit him this weekend. They played kick ball, games, and playstation. They all had a really good time together.

Chase walks without his walker - all we do is hold his gate belt for balance. It is a blessing to see him walk. It won't be long and we will be letting go of that gait belt. Each day he is getting so much stronger. Continue to pray for Chase's pancreas. He is tolerating the formula that is being fed straight to his small intestine but his amylase and lipase levels keep going up. Chase's many test that were done to see if there were any short or long term damage done to his brain from his brain injury have all come back normal. GREAT NEWS!!

Thank you so much for your support and prayers!

Lisa

Chase raced his doctor on a tricycle today!lol (yes- his doctor was riding a tricycle!) CHASE WON! He was able to stand and balance without support for about 10 minutes. He is getting more mobility in his upper body. Those arms, hands, and fingers are really getting stronger. Still working on lifting his arms against gravity. He walked using his walker with his therapist just holding his gait belt.(no security device on the walker holding him) His steps are getting better, he is working hard on his balance. The cyst on his pancreas is getting smaller. Keep praying!!

Today has been a GREAT day! Chase is doing so GOOD! GOD IS SO GOOD!

Lisa

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHASE!! He had the best birthday ever. All the doctors and nurses made his birthday a special day for him with gifts and birthday wishes. Family and friends visited and we all played kickball and volley ball - we had a great time. (Thank you all for coming today and for those that sent gifts - you made his day special) Mrs. Ward and his classmates called to wish him a Happy Birthday. This really made his day. Thank You so much!

We went on our first outing today to the Botanical Gardens. This was the first time Chase has been out of the hospital since the accident (March 21). He was so excited to be able to get out and enjoy just having FUN.
We praise God for all the progress that Chase has made so far. I have faith that God will continue to bless and heal Chase each day. The power of prayer is what is healing Chase.

We want to thank everyone for the bottom of our hearts for those that send cards, money, gifts, ect.. to us. You don't know how much we appreciate the help and support we have received from so many people. You all have touch our hearts. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family, community, our family, and friends in our lives. We love you! I cannot thank Bowdon Homecare enough for allowing me to be with my son during this time. Brad Lipham, Larry Beam and Tommy Beckman - I can't express to you how much you all mean to me. Thank you for your support!

Please keep praying for us! God is hearing our prayers!

Chase was in such great spirits today. He got a new wheelchair that he is able to push himself around in. I can barely keep up with him now. Chase told his therapist that he wanted to walk without the walker today. She let him do this just holding his gate belt and him walking holding the parallel bars. He took about 20 steps which is GREAT. I was so proud of him!! With this determination he will be walking without any assistance in no time. I have faith and believe God will make this happen for Chase.

Chase is now off his IV feeding and is being fed formula through an NJ tube through his nose that is bypassing his stomach going straight to his intestine. He seems to be tolerating this but his amylase and lipase levels are increasing instead decreasing like they were hoping for. He is scheduled for an ultra sound in the morning to see if the cyst is causing the increase in levels. Please continue to pray that God will heal his pancreas. This has been one major hurdle to overcome.

We know we have along way to go but are so thankful for every accomplishment that Chase has made so far and Give God praise for it. He is so good!! Chase has come so far. He has really amazed all his medical team. THANK YOU JESUS!

Chase's 7th birthday is Wednesday. (april 29th). We plan to take him out on his first outing tomorrow. He is so excited!!

We love you all,
Lisa

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Each day Chase just keeps getting stronger with his walking, balance, and being able to do more movements with his upper body. He accomplished all goals set for him this past week such as:
rolling from side to side, holding a pencil and writing his name (this was huge for Chase), and moving his arms with stronger movements against gravity. The nerve pain in his arms are so much better and he is now able to do more therapy on his arms. God is so Good!

Keep praying for Chase! Each day just keeps getting better and better for him. Please pray specifically for Chase's pancreas and his anxiety.

We love you and thank you so much for all that you have done for us. We could not get through this without your love and support.

Love,
Dwayne and Lisa

How proud we are of SuperChase today! He walked today with his walker (the walker has a belt that holds and balances him) and did great. Like I have said this is teaching him how to walk again and learn to balance. He is not walking on his on YET, but we are determined he will. He does great sitting in a regular chair and sitting on the side of the bed. He told his therapist that he was only walking 5 steps today (being stubborn) and he walked about 200 steps. He did awesome!!

Thank you all for the prayers!

Love,
Lisa

The therapist are working hard with Chase to learn how to walk again. Since he's been using more body weight the past few days his muscles have been working more therefore causing him to be in even more pain. This has made him not to excited about walking anymore but he is SuperChase and will overcome this. We'll just stay positive and pray hard for him.

Pancreas is still healing so he is going to have to wait several weeks for real food. Rest is best for the healing of the pancreas. So we will continue what we call "Meals on Wheels." The good news is the cyst is getting smaller.

Chase had a fun weekend playing the Wii and EyeToy. This is GREAT exercise for his arms. He also had a good time playing cards, games, and bowling with those that came to visit him this weekend. He loved it!

Chase is still in good spirits but has started the "I am ready to go home" and is beginning to get really upset about it. It's been 31 days and he is missing his home and family. I can understand how he feels. This is alot for a 6 yr. old to endure and understand. Please PRAY that GOD will take this fear and anger away. He has come so far and we need him to continue to be strong and FIGHT.

Love,
Lisa

Hey Everyone!

What a glorious day for Chase. He was able to accomplish some huge milestones today. From a sitting position he pushed himself up into a standing position w/ assistance of his therapist helping him balance using his own strength in his legs to stand. No devise helping him or supporting him to stand at all. Then he was wanting to walk. (one determined boy) With his therapist only using a gait belt around his waist to help him with his balance and support, he was able to take walking steps himself. He was a little wobbly but THIS IS A HUGE MILESTONE! WE WERE PRAISING GOD EVERY STEP. Mrs. Monica told Chase after his session that he did so well taking his first walking steps and he responded, Oh- it was Jesus that helped me do that. He really touched us all when he said those words.

Unfortunately Chase is not able to eat once again. His stomach could not tolerate the food he ate yesterday and his lipase levels went back up. Going to have to wait and try again next week. We will continue to pray for God to heal his pancreas.

Please keep praying - GOD is so Good!
Love you.

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Chase passed his swallowing test and he is able to eat tonight. His first meal since the accident will be noodles, applesauce, and banana baby food. That sounds awful to us but to him its the best meal ever. He is so happy to finally be able to eat. We just pray that his stomach will tolerate the food and there will be no problems.

In therapy Chase walked with a walking assistance device. Once he got comfortable taking steps, his pace got faster and faster and he was basically running down the hall. His therapist had a hard time keeping up with him. Of course this is not his body weight but this is working to build up the muscles in his legs and to teach him how to walk again. It was a very uplifting moment. God is so good! He is able to balance himself in a sitting position now and also to help transfer from wheelchair to bed. Chase is working hard in therapy on his upper body movements. His arms, hands, and fingers are getting more mobility each day.

Chase is in good spirits. He loves to play cards and board games. He is the Connect 4 champ in rehab.
Chase wants everybody to know that he got a phone call from Aladdin from disney. That really made his day!!!

Thank you all for the cards, gifts, money, visits, support, organinizing benefits for Chase and everyone that have bought t-shirts. You all arel so special to us and a blessing to have in our lives.

We love you,
Dwayne, Lisa, Dylan, and Chase

Chase had a wonderful Easter. Family and Friends came to visit us throughout the day. Chase, Dylan and his cousins hunted Easter Eggs together, they had such a good time. Chase was in great spirits. He had a really good day.

Today he was able to sit up on his own for several minutes. He stood up with assistance for 30 minutes to build up the muscles in his legs. He is not able to stand full body weight on his legs yet but he is working so hard to get to that point. Chase has a lot of pain in his shoulders which is hard to really work on those arms in therapy. His arms, hands, and fingers have some movement just not strong movements. He is a trooper though! He fights through that pain and will do whatever the therapist tells him to. The double vision came back so he has to wear a patch over his eye. His speech is improving everyday. The therapist are very impressed at how well he can read. (THANK YOU, MRS. WARD - RES)
Chase has a swallowing test scheduled for tomorrow to see if its safe to eat.
Please continue to pray for him - pray for his mobility, his swallowing test, his strength.
We love you all and are so thankful for all the support that has been given to our family. You don't know how much it means to us and how your support has made us stronger as a person and as a family. We are truly blessed.

Love,
Dwayne, Lisa, and Dylan.

What a wonderful day!! Chase was able to STAND UP w/ assistance for about 15 minutes. I was screaming with joy. He is working on his balance in a sitting position and moving from side to side. He still needs assistance with this but each day he seems to be able to have more control . He is also having to learn to balance himself with the halo which is difficult. Chase is having to work really hard on the mobility in his arms. He does not have as much movement in his arms as he does in his legs. We've come along way and thank God for every movement he makes each day. One thing that has not changed is Chase's personality. Even through all this pain he still makes us laugh.

I must say that Dylan is the best big brother ever. He is so strong and understanding that we must be away from home. I love you Dylan. You are my life.

Thank you so much for all that you are doing for us and for Chase.

We love you all!

Lisa and Dwayne

Each day Chase is getting stronger and stronger . He works so hard to meet the goals set for him each week. He is so determined. Today one goal was to get on the exercise glider bike and complete 100 leg strokes and Chase did 800 strokes. This exercise will strengthen his legs and stomach so he can complete another goal which is STANDING. How GREAT is our GOD!!!

Chase's amylase and lipase levels are going down each day, just not enough to begin food. Hopefully next week if his levels keep dropping, they will begin feeding him formula. Bless his heart, he is so ready to eat. But the good thing is that the pain in his stomach and arms are so much better that he does not need pain medication during the day. His speech is improving and he does not have double vision anymore. We are so blessed with the progress Chase is making each day and give God the glory.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers and we ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers.

We love you all,
Dwayne and Lisa

Chase had a very exciting weekend. He had lots of visitors from family and friends. Dylan stayed with us Friday Night, we all were so happy to see him. Logan came to see Chase to, they both were so excited to see each other. Logan is doing so good. He may be going back to school hopefully next week.

Chase's pancreas levels have dropped significally over the weekend. PRAISE THE LORD. He is scheduled for a CT scan on Monday. Hopefully we will receive good news and he will finally be able to eat.

In therapy he worked on strengthening his stomach and back muscles so he will be able to sit by himself. He is able to bend his knees and push his legs straight. Very slight movement in arms but any movement gives us HOPE. We give GOD the Glory for all that Chase has accomplished in his first week of therapy. We asked that you continue to pray for Chase's healing and strength to stay strong. Night time is not the best time for Chase but day times are so Great.

Love,
Dwayne and Lisa

Thursday, April 2

Chase worked really hard in therapy today. He loves to go to the Activity session, I think he likes Ms. Lauren. They play games together and he laughs and has such a good time. Chase is in a lot of pain but never gives up. He is such a fighter. I always knew he was stubborn but he really has amazed me. He loves to watch movies and listen to his IPOD. You should hear him singing now. lol This has kept him calm.

Still working on the set backs with his pancreas and the nerve pains in his arms. But we're not going to let that stop us. God is in Control.

Day 12 Wednesday (afternoon)
I received a text from Lisa. She said Chase is having a really good day. They put him in his wheelchair and went to the gym. He exercised his arms today. She said it was painful but he was tough. " Had to pay him $5.00 though, LOL!" she replied in her text. She seems to be in good spirits. We are so proud of you Chase!! Keep up all the hard work! Jenny
Wednesday Morning (this message was sent from Pastor Darryl)

Please continue to pray for Chase. Pray for his pancreas and the pain he is having in his upper body. These are set backs that are preventing him from being able to do the intense rehab that he so needs. I am so thankful to God that there have been some movements in his legs and some in both hands. He squeezed my hand and it felt so good. God is doing his work, I am seeing that each day.
Also, please uplift Dylan in prayer, this has been really hard on him also.

I am so thankful for those who have sent cards, food, money, and kind words of comfort. It helps us get through this difficult time we are going through.
God Bless,

Lisa Wiggins

Well guys I got good news a little bit ago, Chase was able to stay in rehab instead of moving him to just a medical patient. His Dr.s discussed it and felt it was ok to continue with the therapy and keep moving forward.
Day 10 Monday, March 30, 2009

Chase had a small set back this morning. This weekend his stomach has been hurting really bad. They did another CT and found a cyst on his pancreas that is like a ulcer. He was getting nutrition from a feeding tube but they have taken it completely away. The formula was causing the irritability and pain, because of the cyst.Enzymes are also back up in the
pancreas.Since the tube has been out his, stomach is settling down. The ulcer could have been caused from the trauma and stress from the accident. Hopefully in a few days they will be able to try again. He is not in rehab. He is now considered in a medical room. But he is in the same room. Just he will not be having the physical therapist for a few days. Lisa and Dwayne will continue the exercises with him to help build his muscles up. As far as mobility, chase is still moving his feet and his legs a little. Still no upper movement. Chase is a fighter and is fighting with all of his might. We are all so proud of him. Chase is still enjoying his movies, they seem to help calm and soothe him. Please pray that this cyst will heal fast and that he will be able to start back his intense therapy and will be walking and running ASAP!!

Wednesday was a hard day. Chase began his rehab and he was a trooper the whole way! He did not complain one bit and tried to do everything he was asked. He was unable to get into the wheelchair or sit up, but we still have hope that this will happen soon. They are planning on keeping the Halo on for 3 months. He is considered having a c4 paralization, but with all this intense therapy he is about to undergo there is a lot hope of him recovering from this injury. This is from the chest down. He was able to move his shoulders up and down and wiggle his toes during therapy. This is very good! Last night while I was there Lisa asked him to wiggle his toes, Chase quickly said No. It was not that he couldn't wiggle his toes, it's that he didn't want to, but Lisa quickly encouraged him and he did it anyway. Those of you who know Chase, know that this is our Chase coming back! If you know him he has taking his own time his entire life at reaching his milestones. Its when he wants to, not when you want him to, or when someone says he should be doing it.

Day 6 continued...

Thursday morning:

This morning you can hear the hope in Lisa's voice. She says morning are so much better than afternoons. This morning Chase not only moved his leg, he kicked his leg!!!! He also wiggled his toes, and can still move his shoulders up an down. They were talking about moving Chase to rehab on Monday, but this morning they have decided that hopefully he will get to go today but they are still waiting to hear back from this. Hopefully this move and transition will go well. This morning they were able to remove the G-tube and Chase was able to drink his first drink of Apple juice since Sat.. Boy, I am sure it was the best Apple Juice ever!! Morning are much better than afternoons and Lisa says they make more progress in the mornings. They are also slowly weaning him off of some of his pain meds. Also Chase's new craving is one of Dwayne's famous bologna sandwiches!!!! And Cheese pizza's from Papas Pizza to go! Bless him!!!!

Chase has many obstacles to over come. He is having a few improvements daily and we are trying to focus on the positive, but he still needs everyone praying for him and lifting him up. He is taking baby steps to get better, and we need God involved in each one. Without him none of these steps would have been possible. He has a very long road ahead. Please keep praying for him. We want to see him walk out if the hospital and make a full recovery! He needs everyone's support and so does Dwayne, Lisa, & Dylan.. Please don't stop praying for Chase cause he still needs our prayers to over come many other things that may not have been mentioned.

Great news for Logan. Logan is on his way home today!!! Way to go Logan !!

Also I wanted to Thank Times Georgian for reposting the story!

Thanks, Kristy

Day 4

I just talked to Lisa, Chase had surgery at 8:30 this morning. Before surgery he could not move his legs as he did yesterday. When he came out of surgery Lisa was a little surprised by the Halo. It was a lot bigger than imagined. The halo has 2 screws in his head and 2 rods coming from it to a vest that will prevent any movement from his neck and head this will also keep them both straight allowing them to heal correctly. After surgery he was able to wiggle his toes. But still no movement in his arms and no movement of his legs this afternoon. There is still alot of swelling so keep praying that it will go down and he will have full movement of his legs and arms. During surgery they also found a cut in the bottom portion of his lip that needed stitches. They decided to do another CT to make sure there were no broken bones in his face that they might have missed. They are still waiting to hear back from this. The enzymes in his pancreas are high. His spleen is still improving and the bleeding is slowing down. He is talking and is alert. He wants something to eat very bad. At one time he said please just go to McDonald's and get me a number 8. He is watching movies all day, when he is awake. Last night when I went to see him I brought him Alvin and The Chipmunks and he immediately told me something about taking a bath in the dishwasher. This sort of confused me for a minute, and Dylan asked him again, did you say you wanted to take a bath in the dishwasher, Chase corrected him he said no the chipmunks on the movie take a bath in the dishwasher! It was really sweet. So he still has his spunk and he still has the best kisses ever! Lisa asks that you all keep praying! She is so Thankful for everyones love and support! She never knew how many people were here for them and loved her baby.

Logan is doing well! He moved out of ICU today and is in a regular room! They were concerned about his bladder, but otherwise he is on a good track to recovery!

Please keep lifting them up!

Kristy
Beginning of Chase's story.

Chase was visiting with his aunt and uncle on Saturday when he and his 4 year old cousin hopped on the ranger without permission. They took a spin around the front yard then left the property and went out on the dirt road. Dust flew into his eyes and he could not see. He was trying to stop when he accidentally hit the gas and swerved into a tree. Logan Grant(the 4 yr old) had to have emergency surgery to remove bits of his broken skull from his brain, insert a drain, and have the front portion of his skull rebuilt. He is expected to make a complete recovery. Chase's neck was broken at the level of C-2 and his spinal cord is badly bruised and swollen resulting in paralysis from the neck down. The next few days should tell if the paralysis is temporary or perm. The good news is that he is able to breathe on his own and from time to time has enough sensation to feel someone rub his arm. His spleen is pretty battered and broken up but they are trying to give it an opportunity to heal.

Day 3

Chase moved both legs this morning but not able to move his arms. That could change with intense therapy. This is a step forward. The halo is scheduled for tomorrow. Please keep praying! We love you all and thank you for everything.
